Jerusalem Post - Azerbaijan, CNN, and the question Israel should ask itself
Last week, Azerbaijan filed a lawsuit against CNN in a US federal court over what it describes as false and defamatory reporting about its role in the 2026 Iran conflict. CNN alleged that Israel had deployed military and intelligence personnel to Azerbaijan and used Azerbaijani territory for operations against Iran.
Baku has categorically rejected those claims as false, stressing that Azerbaijan does not permit its territory to be used by any state for military operations against a neighboring or third country.
This is not simply a dispute about reputation.

The allegations carry potentially serious security consequences. The IRGC had separately warned that states hosting forces used in attacks against Iran could face retaliation. In March 2026, drones Azerbaijan said had been launched from Iran entered Azerbaijani airspace and struck near Nakhchivan airport and a school, injuring civilians. Tehran denied responsibility.
